Tye Ruotolo aiming to take gold at ONE Fight Night 16 and emulate brother Kade

History can be made this weekend at ONE Fight Night 16: Haggerty vs. Andrade as Tye Ruotolo aims to join his brother Kade as a ONE world champion.
The 20-year-old will fight for the inaugural ONE welterweight submission grappling world title against Russia’s Magomed Abdulkadirov at ONE Fight Night 16 at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium, Bangkok, Thailand this weekend.
Ruotolo’s twin brother, Kade, is already a world champion in ONE’s lightweight submission grappling division – and now the family has an opportunity to add to that gold.
Tye is unbeaten in ONE, having won each of his four fights, three of them inside the distance – adding to his glowing professional CV which includes first place in the IBJJF World Championship last year. At just 16-years-old he reached the semi-finals of the ADCC World Championship – the youngest competitor to ever do so.
He made a huge splash on his ONE debut, submitting American grappling legend Garry “The Lion Killer” Tonon, and now finds himself one fight away from a world title.
Standing in his way is Russia’s Magomed Abdulkadirov, who will start as underdog – but knows an upset win would put him in an elite group of global fighters. Making his ONE debut, the Dagestani comes with solid credentials of his own, including being a UWW World Grappling Champion and a European ADCC Grappling Champion.

With the flair and entertainment of Ruotolo, and the relentless aggression of Abdulkadirov – this could be 10 minutes of grappling gold.

WATCH: Algerian teenage Muay Thai star knocks out Thai opponent at ONE Friday Fights 37

Algeria’s Elyes Kacem picked up an impressive win against more experienced Thai opponent Chai Sor Sor ToiPadriew on his ONE debut.
Kacem, who is only 17 years old, put in an incredible performance and picked up a knockout win at 2:43 in the second round of the Catchweight (58.97 KG) Muay Thai contest.
An exciting first round saw the two fighters trade impressive strikes with Kacem landing heavy punches and a strong high kick.
The fiery exchanges continued in the second frame. Even as Chai landed some heavy body strikes as well as punches to Kacem’s chin, the Algerian star continued to march forward, hitting his opponent with low kicks and a combination of punches.
Later in the second round, and as the two fighters traded strikes in the middle of the circle, Kacem shocked Chai with a left kick to the head that dropped the Thai fighter to the canvas, ending the bout.
With his stunning debut win, Kacem improved his overall record to 24-3 and picked up a performance bonus from ONE’s CEO and Chairman Chatri Sityodtong.

Eight-time world champion versus rising star confirmed for ONE Friday Fights 37 main event

Fight fans are in for a treat this week after an explosive Muay Thai main event was confirmed for ONE Friday Fights 37.
Eight-time Muay Thai World Champion Rafi Bohic faces rising star Antar Kacem in a mouthwatering bantamweight clash.
France’s Bohic arrived in ONE earlier this year with a huge reputation. World titles aside, he is one of only a handful of foreign athletes to be fully taken into the world of Muay Thai – partly due to his success but also his technical style and his love and dedication to the sport.
With his debut win under his belt, the 32-year-old now faces Kacem as he goes in search of the ONE world title.
Standing in his way in the Lumpinee Stadium will be a 24-year-old Belarusian who has already made a mark in ONE.
His debut may not have been the start he wanted losing a split decision to Thai teenager Yodphupa Wimanair, but he was soon able to avenge that in style.
Less than two months later he won an astonishing rematch – picking himself up off the canvas no fewer than three times before knocking his opponent out cold with a string of well placed right hands.
All the elements are in place to make this an instant classic.
The full ONE Friday Fights 37 card is:

Rafi Bohic vs. Antar Kacem (Muay Thai – bantamweight)
Theptaksin Sor Sornsing vs. Rittidet Sor Sommai (Muay Thai – 132-pound catchweight)

ONE Fight Night 15 hits our screens in the early hours of Saturday morning in the Middle East, and with another bumper card, this is one not to be missed.
Here are five reasons you should be tuning in….

A knockout main event

Thanh Le and Ilya Freymanov are two of the most formidable men in the ONE featherweight MMA division, and will clash for the division’s interim world title. Le has held the crown previously and is determined to get back to the top of the mountain, while number-three ranked Freymanov has been slaying all before him on his run up the rankings. Two men with eyes on the prize – expect fireworks in this one.

Submission Grappling for the Ages

In a special openweight submission contest ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Champion Mikey Musumeci faces Japanese legend and former lightweight MMA king Shinya Aoki. Musumeci has swept all before him, but will the added experience and guile of Aoki provide his stiffest challenge to date?

Two sport champ?

ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Champion Tawanchai PK Saenchai continues on his campaign for two-sport glory in Bangkok. He will take on veteran striker Jo Nattawut in the kickboxing division as he goes hunting for a second title.

A blistering co-main event

The card also features a ONE Strawweight Kickboxing World Championship showdown, as undefeated titleholder Jonathan Di Bella defends against Thai-Aussie underdog Danial Williams. Middle East Interest

Shakir Al-Tekreeti is one of the standouts to emerge from a growing Muay Thai scene in Iraq. Born in Baghdad, he now trains out of Pattaya Thailand and is making a name for himself on the tough Muay Thai scene. This will be his ONE debut as he steps in against French standout Bampara Kouyate.

Stamp Fairtex takes undisputed atomweight crown after Angela Lee retirement

It was a dramatic night Singapore as Stamp Faitex created history by becoming a three-sport world champion.
Long-time ONE atomweight world champion Angela Lee called time on her career in an emotional announcement prior to what should have been a clash for the interim title between Stamp and Ham Seo Hee.
The news increased the tension going into the fight but Thailand’s Stamp started well, with trademark kicks finding a home early on.
The fight would not be without adversity though, a straight right from Ham dropped Stamp in the second, but she was able to scramble to safety, before finding good pressure of her own locking in an armbar at the end of the second stanza. The bell would save Ham on this occasion.
There would be no such intervention in the third however as Stamp would not be denied. A ripping body shot crumpled her opponent with the referee forced to step in to halt some vicious ground and pound.
In claiming her first MMA world title, Stamp not only collected a $50,000 performance bonus – but became ONE’s first ever three-sport world champion.
Elsewhere, teenage sensation Smilla Sundar proved once more why she is the best in the women’s strawweight Muay Thai division. The 18-year-old stopped the current atomweight champion Allycia Hellen Rodrigues in the closing stages of the third round.
America’s Danielle Kelly became the ONE Atomweight Submission Grappling World Champion with a hard-fought decision win over Jessa Khan.
On a landmark night for women’s combat sports, ONE Women’s Strawweight MMA World Champion “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan took out Muay Thai phenom Nat “Wondergirl” Jaroonsak in a special rules match, with only punches allowed. Xiong would walk away victorious with a third round TKO.
There was also a big win for John Lineker, who outlasted #2-ranked bantamweight MMA Stephen Loman as he plots his path back to a world title shot.
