Under Armour launch innovative UA Infinite Collection in Barcelona with NYC Marathon winner Sharon Lokedi

Under Armour is happy to play the ‘long game’ with the pinnacle shoe of their new UA Infinite Collection.
2022 New York City Marathon winner Sharon Lokedi, plus a group of global media and influencers, were invited to Barcelona last month to be introduced to Under Armour’s latest running innovation. This represented the culmination of intensive work, delivering key footwear models that support lengthy run days as well as everyday miles through UA Infinite Elite and UA Infinite Pro.
On February 2, UA Infinite Elite will launch in the Middle East. The super-responsive endurance-running shoe will be available, retailing at AED 749, SAR 899, KWD 64.9, OMR 77.9, QAR 749 and BHD 77.9.
A key component of UA Infinite Collection is the advanced UA HOVR+™ cushioning, delivering a lighter, softer and more responsive underfoot experience than any previous UA midsole edition. The flagship UA Infinite Elite leads the charge, with supreme comfort via HOVR+ technology being further boosted by an adaptive full-length UA Intelliknit upper and other innovations.
This approach gained the seal of approval from Lokedi. The 29-year-old became Under Armour’s first pro-run athlete to claim victory at a major marathon in the ‘Big Apple’ two years ago and is convinced Infinite Elite can help propel her to further successes.
She tells Sport360: “The first time I pulled them on, I said: ‘Wow, this feels completely different.’
“It’s light, the material fits different and I’ve been fortunate enough to be with Under Armour for a long time [since 2019], seeing the progression they’ve made. From the Hovr Infinite, to the Machina and now Infinite Elite.
“I think it’s been really good progress and I’m really excited about where we’re going with the Infinite Elite. When I’m on my runs, I don’t feel like I’ve got anything heavy, it’s just very light and responsive, it also gives you that energy return you need when you’re feeling tired.”

This journey to the UA Infinite Collection has played out for more than a year. Lokedi was an expert tester at home in Kenya – under the tutelage of UA Mission Run Dark Sky Distance coach Stephen Haas in Flagstaff, Arizona, aided by feedback from the brand’s professional running team throughout.
Jonathan Hutnyan, Senior Product Line Manager of Performance Run Footwear, has also been present every step of the way.
The intensive process of bringing a concept to market was anchored by key phrases.
“Instead of saying ‘it’s made for this type of person, this type of runner that runs this fast and this far’, we gave them key words of experience like ‘boundless’, ‘effortless’ and ‘limitless’,” Hutnyan says.
“Then it goes to a developer to make a physical shoe. We go through three rounds of prototypes, each tested with pro athletes, everyday runners and we also run a check at our biomechanical lab. This process takes up to 16 months.
“We take all that information and do it all over again. After the third time, if it’s right and ready, we press Go on production and make thousands and thousands of pairs readily available for our consumers.”

Such dedication and attention to detail has been worth the effort. The Infinite Elite provides ultra and plush comfort across every mile on the long run, while the hug-your-foot fit of UA Infinite Pro makes it perfect for shorter days or recovery runs.
Such versatility and performance from Under Armour has made Lokedi proud to be associated with.
She says: “The testing of the Infinite Elite started about one-and-a-half-years ago. ‘Just try it on, tell us everything you feel about it.’ they told me.
“I shared feedback about what needed to be improved. I have switched it to my everyday shoe.
“The only time I don’t wear it is when I’m doing workouts, then I wear my marathon shoe and my Velociti Elite shoe for track workouts and short distances.”
“I wear Infinite Elite for my everyday runs, morning runs and recovery runs. I love the foam a lot, it feels so plush – just the right amount.”
The UA Infinite Collection can be found at underarmour.ae and underarmour.sa and across Under Armour stores in various colorways for both men and women.

The Jr. NBA Abu Dhabi League is set to kick off its games on Monday, February 5, culminating in the third Jr. NBA Abu Dhabi League Finals on Sunday, May 5. Iranian kickboxer looking to make his mark at ONE 165: Superlek vs Takeru

Iran’s Iraj Azizpour finds himself on one of the biggest cards ONE Championship is likely to put on this year – with an opportunity to re-establish himself as a leading kickboxing contender.
The 35-year-old takes on Serbia’s Rade Opacic on the lead card of ONE 165: Superlek vs Takeru this weekend looking to bounce back from his only defeat with the organisation.
Azizpour had gone 3-0 in his first three ONE bouts, but could not get past the dominance of Roman Kryklia, the reigning light-heavyweight kickboxing and heavyweight Muay Thai world champion.
A defeat to the Ukrainian is by no means a disgrace, but Azizpour will be looking to find the form that saw him take two unanimous decision wins and one sensational knockout when he came onto the ONE scene in 2021.
He has not fought in the organisation since defeat to Kryklia in November 2022, but knows getting back in the win column can quickly uplift his heavyweight kickboxing credentials. It could also lead down a path of redemption against Kryklia. The pair have fought three times now – with the Iranian holding one win, and a hunger for another without doubt.
A world championships silver medallist in Muay Thai, Azizpour is one of the Middle East’s elite stickers, but will face a stern test this weekend in the form of Opacic.
The 26-year-old holds an impressive 6-1 record in ONE with a number of highlight-reel finishes to his name – and he also knows a win over Azizpour would certainly bolster his fight CV.
There is a lot on the line for both men in Japan this weekend, and don’t be surprised if it doesn’t go the distance.
ONE 165: Superlek vs. Takeru takes place Sunday January 28 1pm GST at the Ariake Arena, Tokyo. This is an event not to be missed so mark your calendars, download the ONE Super App, and go to watch.onefc.com now!
ONE Championship returns to the Middle East on March 1 with ONE 166: Qatar at the Lusail Stadium, Doha. A historic night awaits with no less than five title fights planned, and tickets are now available from Virgin Megastore and Q-Tickets.

Three fights not to be missed at ONE 165: Superlek vs. Takeru

ONE 165: Superlek vs. Takeru takes place this weekend at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo, and even though we are only three weeks into 2024 the card already has the credentials of the best-of-the-year contender.
Loaded from top to bottom, here is our pick of three fights not to be missed.
Superlek vs Takeru
Being the headliner, it goes without saying this fight is something special. With the ONE flyweight kickboxing world title on the line, Superlek will be looking to show why he is considered one the of the world’s very best strikers. If his reputation wasn’t good enough, his win last timeout against Rodtang only further endorsed his living legend credentials. It was Rodtang who Takeru should have faced at this event, but injury put an end to that with Superlek stepping in and putting his title on the line. Takeru may be making his ONE Championship debut, but he has multiple world titles to his name, and an astonishing 43-3 overall kickboxing record. This is a striking contest for the ages.
Kade Ruotolo vs Tommy Langakar
Last year these two gave us one of the best submission grappling contests of 2023, now we are fortunate enough to see it all over again this weekend. Ruotolo needs little introduction. ONE’s inaugural lightweight submission grappling champion, he has never lost a grappling bout as a black belt and at 21-years old has been nothing short of unstoppable. Langakar arguably gave him the closest fight of his career, one the Norwegian feels he won, and is now looking for redemption – and with more than 150 matches as a BJJ black belt to his name he feels he has the experience and confidence to take home the title.
Garry Tonon vs Martyn Nguyen
Two of ONE Championship’s biggest, and most experienced names will clash this weekend – with both men still hunting title glory. Tonon has been in ONE for seven years, Nguyen three years more than that and quite how their paths have not crossed before is something of a mystery. But here we are – Tonon is ranked number one in the featherweight MMA division, while ONE’s first two division world champion Nguyen is just two places further back. American Tonon has a devastating ground game, while Nguyen is one of the best knockout artists to grace the ONE canvas. A title shot surely awaits either man, and this one could be a classic.

Sage Northcutt ready for ‘biggest fight of his career’ at ONE 165: Superlek vs Takeru

Sage Northcutt is looking to take another step on the road to ONE Championship glory this weekend, but has an imperious challenger standing in front of him.
The American spent almost four years out of the fight game, but returned with a win last year and looks to continue his return at ONE:165 Superlek vs Takeru on Sunday by taking on former two-time ONE lightweight MMA champion Shinya Aoki.
The venue will be the Ariake Arena, Tokyo, home ground for Aoki who has amassed 47 wins across a 59-fight MMA career.
At 27, Northcutt is 13 years younger than his opponent, with just 15 fights under his belt –  a professional resume only a quarter of the depth of Aoki. It is no wonder he is already labeling this as the biggest fight of his career.
“I’ve always dreamed of fighting in Japan, so getting to fight on ONE 165 on January 28 is going to be very exciting,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to starting off the year with a great performance. I like to finish my fights if I’m able to, to make it as exciting for all the fans as possible. The fans are definitely going to be in for a treat, that’s for sure. This is huge.
“A lot of people know him as a legend in the sport. He’s had almost 60 pro [MMA] fights, he’s one of the longest-reigning champions in ONE Championship. This is definitely the biggest fight of my career.”
The clash will be a real battle of styles with Northcutt a karate practitioner, while Aoki has shown himself to be a master of BJJ and judo.
Northcutt will undoubtedly want to keep the fight standing – each of Aoki’s last six losses, including those in his last two fights, have come via KO or TKO.
The Californian has always had attention thrust upon him whenever he has fought, but a win this weekend would cement his place as a serious contender in the lightweight division.

ONE 166: Qatar – Saudi hero Osamah Almarwai relishing pressure of ‘home’ fight

Brazilian jiu jitsu world champion Osamah Almarwai has told of his excitement ahead of competing in front of his home fans in the Middle East.
Born and raised in Saudi Arabia, Almarwai is one of the world’s elite BJJ practitioners, and will get to display his skills on the mat at ONE 166: Qatar on March 1.
This will be just his second fight in ONE Championship following his debut in 2023, but his experience and accomplishments in the sport are vast – earning him world renowned acclaim and a host of titles including the no-gi world championship in 2022.
It is not often he gets to fight in front of a Middle East crowd, but the 31-year-old who was born in Jeddah says he can’t wait.
“Man, I cannot wait for that moment,” he tells Sport360. “I think it’s gonna be one of the best moments in my career. I already have people messaging me from Qatar, Saudi, Yemen, the whole of the Middle East, excited for my upcoming fight, and I have a lot of fans and a lot of supporters who will be there with me.”
Support like that does not come without pressure though, and when he takes to the ring to face Brazil’s Cleber Sousa, Almarwai knows he is carrying the expectations of the region.
“Yeah, so honestly, it’s a lot of pressure on my shoulders,” he explained. “But that pressure is what fuels me to train. I’m training like four times a day. It is a lot of training, but this is what motivates me to wake up, and go to hard training sessions.
“A lot of people in the Middle East have faith in me. They are waiting for me to win, and I’m doing everything in my power to represent them to the best of my ability.”

ONE 166: Qatar – Stamp Fairtex and Tye Ruotolo add two more title fights to stellar card

Two more massive world title fights have been added to ONE 166: Qatar as ONE Championship makes a huge return to the Middle East.
Thailand’s Stamp Fairtex will be defending her Atomweight MMA World Title against Denice Zamboanga of the Philippines, and American BJJ star Tye Ruotolo will defend his Welterweight Submission Grappling World Title against former IBJJF World Champion Izaak Michell of Australia.
This now makes five world title fights at the Lusail Sports Arena on March 1 with ONE Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight MMA World Champion Anatoly Malykhin of Russia attempts to become a three-division king, challenging the Netherlands’ Reinier de Ridder for the ONE Middleweight MMA World Title. In addition, ONE Strawweight MMA World Champion Jarred Brooks of the U.S. defends his title against the Philippines’ Joshua Pacio, and ONE Featherweight MMA World Champion Tang Kai of China returns to take on interim title holder Thanh Le of the U.S. in a World Title unification bout.
Stamp Fairtex is one of the biggest names in martial arts having become a three sport world champion in 2022. The reigning atomweight MMA champion has previous stints at the queen of both kickboxing and Muay Thai division – something no other female had achieved previously.
Ruotolo is another grappling prodigy set to stun the crowds in Qatar. At just 20 years of age he rules over the welterweight submission grappling division, while his twin brother Kade is the lightweight king.

Iraqi star Shakir Al-Tekreeti ready for ‘no ordinary opponent’ at ONE Fight Night 18

Iraq’s Shakir Al-Tekreeti has told of his desire for revenge as he enters this ring this weekend to face a man who defeated his brother.
Al-Tekreeti, one of the region’s standout Muay Thai prospects, will face Rungrawee at ONE Fight Night 18: Gasanov vs Oh, less than a year after the Thai fighter took a unanimous decision over his brother Mustafa.
“My preparations for the next fight have been tough especially after knowing that my opponent would be Rungrawee,” said Al Tekreeti. “He is not an ordinary opponent. He is an opponent that I must get revenge from.
“To be honest, getting revenge [for Mustafa’s loss against Rungrawe]. I wanted to take time off this month, but when they offered me to fight Rungrawee, I accepted without even thinking about it so that I can take revenge through a win, a bonus, and to avenge for my brother’s loss”
The 27-year-old has mapped out his route to victory, and feels forward pressure will be key to getting his hand raised. “My gameplan is to pressure my opponent from close range. I will use my boxing skills. And with boxing and my height advantage, I expect to finish the match by knockout. It will not last for three rounds.”

He has identified a weak jaw on Rungrawee, and feels this will be an easy night’s work at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok. “His biggest weaknesses include his weak jaw,” he said. In previous fights, he was wobbled by one or two powerful punches. I believe that I have enough strength to make him sleep. As for his strong points, he doesn’t have anything special. He has good kicks, he has an OK clinch, but he doesn’t have anything that scares me. I think he will be an easy opponent.”
Al Tekreeti, 22-6 overall, is unbeaten in ONE Championship after an impressive debut win, and sees this fight as one to further enhance his credentials in the lightweight division. When taking to the ring, he says it is not just for himself, or his family, but the wider Arab world.
“Representing Iraqis and Arabs has given me a huge motivation. Whenever I think of taking it easy in the morning, I then think of what it means to represent Iraq in ONE Championship, and I push myself to the limit, I train to reach the highest level possible so that I make Iraqis and Arabs proud.”
